Description:
‘Harmonise the handbag fastener with the jewel in the hat. Hats with lining. Hair in the same tones as the dresses.’ Gazette du Bon Ton, 1927. The 1920s saw the rise of sophisticated day and evening wear with matching accessories. Thus the lining of this Chanel coat is made of the same fabric as the dress. Delicate muslin cutouts in the shape of jagged leaves stand out in relief. This ensemble belonged to Anna Gould (1875–1961).
